Kierkegaard, to write or to die

Stéphane Vial's first book

Kierkegaard, to write or to die is my first book. Released in 2007 at the Presses Universitaires de France, in the famous « Perspectives critiques » series directed by Roland Jaccard, it attempts to understand, thanks to the light of psychoanalysis, why Søren Kierkegaard chose a lonely life only dedicated to the task of writing (only in french at this moment).

Kierkegaard, écrire ou mourir

From 1838, the year when he published his first book, to 1855, the year when he died, Kierkegaard wrote and published not less than 34 books, whose 17 of them in only 3 years !

And you must add the huge collection of private papers and personal notes he started to write since 1834, which fill the 13 volumes of his Papers, where comes from his Diary.

Why did Kierkegaard wrote so much ? Why the writing activity was so important in his life, to the detriment of his lovelife which was so sweet with Regina or to his priest life to which he was destined ? What is the sense of what I called the kierkegaardian « hyper-writing » ?

These are the questions I try to answer in this book, Kierkegard, to write or to die (« Kierkegaard, écrire ou mourir »), thanks to the light of psychoanalysis, by a very attentive reading of his private Diary.
